Cash for Kids is the official charity of Metro Radio and Magic 1152 and supports thousands of children across the North East who suffer abuse or neglect, are disabled and have special needs or simply need a little extra care or guidance. Every single penny we raise stays right here in our region and provides a helping hand when and where it is needed most, so you can be sure that your money is changing the lives of children on your doorstep.

"I visited the teenage cancer ward in the RVI Newcastle just before Christmas and was inspired to do something for charity by the strength and positivity shown by the boys and girls we met that afternoon. It put loads of things in perspective for me and has made me determined to help in any way i can. Cash for Kids seemed the ideal charity to donate to as every penny of the money raised goes directly to kids in the North East and is not lost in other areas. Having lived in the region for ten years, I now consider myself to be an adopted Geordie, and if i can do something positive to help local children then it will fulfil my desire to get involved properly in raising funds for an excellent charity."

Philippa Tomson

Philippa Tomson co-anchors North East Tonight on ITV1 every week day at 6pm.

Originally from York, Philippa trained as a newspaper journalist before making the leap into television. She joined ITV Central based in the West Midlands where she worked as a producer, reporter and presenter. She was also a freelance presenter on the 24-hour ITV News Channel.

In August 2006 she was offered the job of co-presenting North East Tonight with ITV Tyne Tees and quit the Midlands to move to the North East. She lives on the edge of the Northumberland countryside. Away from the cameras she loves being outdoors with her dog, skiing, running, reading and helping to support Cash For Kids.

I'm honoured to be on board the Cash For Kids charity. It raises buckets of cash every year to support local disadvantaged children and I hope my involvement will help continue its fantastic work. Not every child is as lucky as the next one and that's where Cash For Kids come in. If we can put a smile on just one child’s face then it’s a job well done.
