My news team at Metro Radio has the honour of reporting on a huge range of issues and stories across the year but, without a doubt, one of our highlights is the now annual £1 Million of Work campaign.

Today I am delighted to confirm it returns for two weeks from Monday 21 January 2013.

If you’ve not heard it before, the idea is a simple one. We ask companies in the north east to consider whether investing in new staff might boost business. As a thank you we offer to publicise for free any new roles that are created. The salaries of these jobs go into our totalizer, as we attempt to stimulate a million pounds of work for our region. In 2012, our final figure reached almost £18 million!!

So, once again, we use the start of a new year to encourage firms to think about staffing and we offer our help to let as many people as possible know about new jobs, which hopefully will result in an even wider selection of candidates.

In 2013, we would like to feature more stories of listeners who find work through £1 Million of Work, so if get employed because of the campaign, please get in touch. Good news is needed more than ever and we would be delighted to re-tell your story.

Throughout the two weeks of the campaign we will also be running a lot of advice and tips on Metro. In week one, these will focus on getting young people into work including apprenticeships. Week two will investigate how you become an entrepreneur and make your business ideas a reality.

Again, you might feel you can contribute in these areas and, if so, please let us know.

In fact if you have any feedback or questions please feel free to contact me directly. I can be emailed at Justin.kings@metroradio.co.uk or you can find me on Twitter @newsleader

Best wishes and thank you in advance to north east businesses for their support of Metro Radio’s third £1 Million of Work,
